Estimated Concrete Casting Cost per Meter : Detailed and Accurate!

Estimated concrete casting cost

Estimating the concrete casting cost per meter is essential to create an accurate budget. That way, ongoing construction projects can proceed smoothly.

It's important to note that the cost of concrete casting varies depending on the type of concrete used. Generally, concrete slabs have the highest cost compared to other types. If you're still unsure about the estimated concrete casting cost per meter, read this article to find out.

Estimated Cost of Concrete Casting Per Meter

Creating a budget plan is essential whether you are renovating a house or working on a large-scale construction project. Therefore, you need to know the estimated cost of everything involved, one of which is the estimated concrete casting cost per meter.

As mentioned earlier, the cost of concrete casting varies depending on the type of concrete. Below are the estimated costs for different types of concrete casting.

1. Estimated Cost for Concrete Slabs

Concrete slabs are commonly used in building construction, especially as a component in multi-story buildings. The process of creating concrete slabs involves preparing the formwork, mixing cement, applying concrete to the formwork, and finishing.

One of the advantages of concrete slabs is their high durability compared to other types. However, this type of concrete also has a drawback – its weight. Below are the estimated costs for different types of concrete slabs:

  • K225 Concrete Slab: Rp820,000 - Rp845,000 per m².
  • K250 Concrete Slab: Rp840,000 - Rp875,000 per m².
  • K300 Concrete Slab: Rp870,000 - Rp905,000 per m².
  • K350 Concrete Slab: Rp900,000 - Rp935,000 per m².
  • K400 Concrete Slab: Rp940,000 - Rp975,000 per m².
  • K450 Concrete Slab: Rp980,000 - Rp1,015,000 per m².
  • K500 Concrete Slab: Rp1,040,000 - Rp1,075,000 per m².
  • K600 Concrete Slab: Rp1,090,000 - Rp1,125,000 per m².

Keep in mind that these prices are only estimates. The actual cost may vary by location. Additionally, these prices do not include labor and other supporting materials.

2. Estimated Cost for Keraton Concrete

Keraton concrete, or ceramic concrete, is an alternative to traditional concrete slabs if you find their cost too high. In addition to cement, the main material for keraton concrete is ceramic concrete, made from fired clay. It resembles bricks but has a hole in the middle for inserting steel reinforcements.

The advantage of keraton concrete is its quick installation and lower cost compared to concrete slabs, around Rp350,000 per m².

However, this cost does not include labor and additional materials. A drawback of keraton concrete is its inability to support heavy loads, so it's unsuitable for high-rise buildings.

3. Estimated Cost for Bondek Concrete

Bondek concrete uses galvanized steel sheets as formwork, which are often referred to as bondek. These steel sheets also serve as permanent supports for the concrete reinforcement.

Typically, the cost for bondek concrete is approximately Rp230,000 per square meter. This price excludes labor and additional materials.

Concrete Casting Cost Calculation Simulation

As mentioned earlier, concrete slab casting tends to be the most expensive option. Keep in mind that the prices listed are only estimates, and costs can vary between regions. For a better understanding, here is a cost calculation simulation for concrete casting per meter.

1. Concrete Slab Cost Simulation

For this simulation, we'll use the highest estimate for the K225 concrete slab at Rp845,000 per square meter. Here's the calculation:

A second-floor area with a length of 12 meters and a width of 10 meters will be cast with K225 concrete. Here's the cost breakdown:

  • Area = 12 m x 10 m = 120 m
  • Total cost = Area x Cost per m² = 120 m² x Rp845,000/m² = Rp101,400,000

So, the total cost to cast a 120 m² area with a K225 concrete slab is Rp101,400,000.

2. Keraton Concrete Cost Simulation

For this calculation, we will simulate a keraton concrete cost for an area with a length of 10 meters and a width of 7 meters, at a cost of Rp350,000 per square meter. Here’s the breakdown:

  • Area = 10 m x 7 m = 70 m²
  • Total cost = Area x Cost per m² = 70 m² x Rp350,000/m² = Rp24,500,000

Thus, the total cost for keraton concrete in a 70 m² area is Rp24,500,000.

3. Bondek Concrete Cost Simulation

To calculate the cost of bondek concrete, we simulate an area of 15 meters in length and 6 meters in width at a cost of Rp230,000 per square meter. Here's the calculation:

  • Area = 15 m x 6 m = 90 m²
  • Total cost = Area x Cost per m² = 90 m² x Rp230,000/m² = Rp20,700,000

Therefore, the total cost for bondek concrete in a 90 m² area is Rp20,700,000.

Factors Influencing Concrete Casting Costs

Developing a casting budget is not about looking at a static number. There are various field variables that can either drive costs up or make the project more efficient. Here are the key determining factors:

1. Concrete Quality Grade (K-Series)

As previously discussed, the concrete grade (K-Series) is the primary determinant of material price. Using K-350 grade for a floor slab will be significantly more expensive than K-225.

The selection of this grade must be tailored to the room's function and the intended load to avoid over-budgeting or structural deficiency.

2. Area Size and Casting Thickness

Concrete costs are calculated based on volume ($m^3$). The larger the area and the thicker the slab, the greater the volume of concrete required.

The standard slab thickness for residential homes usually ranges from 12 cm to 15 cm. A difference of even 2 cm over a large area can significantly impact the total cost of the concrete order.

3. Distance and Site Accessibility

Sites that are difficult for large mixer trucks to access will incur higher operational costs. If the project is located in a narrow alley, you may need to rent a smaller mixer truck (minimix), which typically has a higher price per cubic meter.

Additionally, the distance from the batching plant to the site affects mobilization fees and the risk of concrete quality degradation due to long travel times.

4. Casting Method and Heavy Equipment Usage

Manual casting (using human labor and a small portable mixer) might seem cheaper for small-scale projects. However, for large volumes, using Ready Mix and a Concrete Pump is much more efficient.

While there are equipment rental fees, the time efficiency and consistent concrete quality produced are far superior, minimizing the risk of future structural damage.

5. Formwork and Scaffolding Costs

Formwork is the temporary mold used to hold the liquid concrete. If you use conventional methods (timber and plywood), the material and labor costs for installation will be quite high.

Conversely, modern methods like Bondek can cut scaffolding costs because the steel decking serves as both permanent formwork and bottom reinforcement.

6. Weather Conditions and Working Hours

Casting during the rainy season requires additional costs for protection (such as tarps or chemical additives to speed up the curing process). Furthermore, if the work is done overtime or on holidays, there are usually additional surcharges for labor wages.

These are the estimated concrete casting costs per meter and calculation simulations you should know. Besides cost estimates, you must also pay attention to the quality of cement used in the concrete process. To ensure a high-quality finish, consider using bulk cement like Semen Merah Putih.
