1. Store Cement in an Enclosed Space
Cement should be stored in an enclosed space, protected from sunlight and rain. If it is not possible to do so, make sure that the cement is stored in a shady place with no direct exposure to sunlight and rain. Stack cement sacks off the floor on wooden planks so that there is no direct contact between the sacks and the floor. For maximum protection, cover the stack with a sheet of tarp.
2. Stack Cement Sacks Alternately
When storing cement sacks in large quantities, stack cement sacks the same way you would stack bricks, alternating lengthwise and crosswise position. The first layer of cement sacks should be placed parallel, with the next layer placed in the opposite direction. Stacking the sacks alternately will help prevent the stack from toppling over in the long run.
3. Store Cement Sacks Close to Each Other to Prevent Air Circulation
When stacking cement sacks, ensure that the sacks are stacked close to each other. This will help prevent air circulation. Cement is a hygroscopic material, it attracts moisture. Cement should be stored in such a way as it could form lumps when exposed to air moisture.
4. Use Cement Starting From the First Ones Stored
Apply the first in first out method in storing cement sacks. Sacks that are stored earlier should be used first before using the later ones.
5. Maintain the Hygiene of the Storage Room
The storage room used to store cement should be kept clean. Cleaning and opening the room regularly will allow air circulation and prevent humidity.
