Lightweight brick is a type of building material made of quartz sand, cement, chalk, gypsum, water, and aluminum paste. A lot of people decided to use lightweight brick as an alternative building material to replace red brick because it is bigger and lighter than red brick. Furthermore, lightweight brick also has some other advantages, such as:

  1. Echo Preventing Ability

Lightweight brick has air cavities caused by chemical processes during its production. These air cavities function as a silencer to prevent echo in the room. Besides, these cavities also resist heat, which could help making the room feel cooler.

  1. Faster Working Process

As mentioned previously, the size of lightweight brick is bigger than the usual red brick. In general, lightweight brick has the size of 60 x 20 x 8 cm, while conventional red brick has the size of 17 x 7 x 3 cm. Lightweight brick is big and has a uniform shape, which results in faster application and material transporting processes. Furthermore, the surface of lightweight brick is smoother, so there is no need to apply a thick layer of plaster.

  1. More Resistant to Water

Lightweight brick could reduce echo, and it is also resistant to water. The use of lightweight brick as wall material could reduce the possibility of water permeation, resulting in a more rain resistant building.

The advantages mentioned above makes lightweight brick a practical and economical alternative to the usual red brick. If you are using lightweight brick during construction process, make sure that you are using premium quality cement for a stronger and more durable result. Portland Composite Cement from Semen Merah Putih is a cement product which complies with national and international cement quality standards, and is suitable for use in general constructions.
