JAKARTA, 10 September 2013– The needs of infrastructure and construction in Indonesia is rapidly increasing due to the national economic development. In order to support the needs of high quality raw materials, cement producer Semen Merah Putih initiatively build its first integrated plant located in approximately 500 hectares area in Bayah District, Lebak Regency, Banten Province.
The plant owned by PT Cemindo Gemilang supports the Master Plan of Indonesia's Economics Development Acceleration and Expansion (MP3EI) implemented by the Indonesian government.
Marking the start of plant physical construction, the ground breaking event will be attended by Minister of Economics Hatta Rajasa, several ministers from the cabinet, a number of local officers, and a number of local leaders.
Beside its integrated concept, the plant is also established with the vision of green project and green plant where the environmental effects that may appear has been anticipated and well managed, states the Director of PT Cemindo Gemilang, Aan Selamat in a press conference in Jakarta, Tuesday (10/9).
A port facility (special terminal) with the dock depth up to 13 meters, equipped to contain ships with the weight of 30,000 dwt, is also provided to complete the plant. The energy source of the plant is not only supplied with charcoals but also use electricity of 60 Megawatt from PLTU Pelabuhan Ratu.
The area of Bayah itself has become a promising place for cement industry since the area provides main source of complete cement raw materials. This is why we chose Bayah as the location of cement plant, because it has good potentials, added Aan.
Accelerate Economical and Infrastructure Development
We hope as the plant construction begins, the plan to develop infrastructure in the area and national area in long term can be fulfilled, said Aan. Moreover, he also added that the Semen Merah Putih plant is the only MP3EI project in southern Banten with the investment valued more than 600 millions US Dollar. This project is hoped to have multiple effect seconomically and have positive effects for Lebak area and its surroundings, by developing economics and empowerment of the local society.
PT Cemindo Gemilang itself has targeted that the plant will start operating in the middle of 2015. In the construction era, the plant hires at least 4,000 workers which mostly comes from local people. At this moment the influence of the plant can already be seen, because there are a lot of new business opening, said Aan.
With the capacity of 10,000 tons clicker per day, Cemindo sets a target of producing 4 million tons cement per year. Cemindo hopes to continue contributing on the cement demand, which in 2015 is predicted to reach 70 million tons, and it will increase up to 10% in the next year.
The cement demand is increasingly high. So, without any new cement plant constructions, Indonesia may be lacking of cement in the future, he said.
Based on Indonesia's economical data, the needs of cement will increase along with the Indonesia's income per capita which is estimated to reach 14,250-15,500 US Dollar in 2025. |
