Before making a cement trowel, you have to prepare some wood planks, a wood shaving machine, hand tools, bolts, and a drill. The first step is to prepare a thin piece of wood of your desired size. If the available wood plank is too thick, you can make it thinner using a wood shaving machine. A thin piece of wood will allow easier cement smoothing process, as it is more lightweight to hold. Do not forget to ensure that the wood surface is smooth and no holes are present on the wood’s surface. To make a trowel handle, start by shaping some wood into a semi-circle shape, and make a hole in the middle for your hand. Smoothen the handle surface using wood shaving machine or a sandpaper for a more comfortable grip. After the handle is done, you can combine the two parts using bolts and a drill.
To be able to easily reach the whole wall surface, make two cement trowels in different sizes, a big one and a smaller one. Wash the trowels as soon as possible after use, because the leftover cement could harden, making trowel cleaning harder to do. After washing, dry the trowels by putting them under direct sunlight to prevent the wood from rotting.
