Green Construction Transformation: Semen Merah Putih’s Strategic Collaboration with Partners for Green Concrete Adoption

Beton Merah Putih, a subsidiary of Semen Merah Putih, has reinforced its position as a pioneer of green innovation in the Indonesian concrete industry through the implementation of Carbon Injection technology. This technology represents a breakthrough in sustainable practices within the concrete production process. By injecting carbon dioxide into fresh concrete during manufacturing, it reduces the overall carbon footprint of the concrete without compromising its quality and performance.

This initiative is an effort to support the construction industry's transition toward sustainable development and Indonesia's Net Zero Emissions 2060 target. However, as a new innovation, this initiative requires collaboration with all stakeholders, particularly strategic partners to collectively drive the adoption of low-carbon concrete.

"We are seeing a positive trend where more and more construction partners are committing to using eco-friendly green concrete. The Carbon Injection technology we present is a tangible solution to support sustainability, while simultaneously offering concrete with superior technical advantages," said Akhmad Syamsuddin, Operational Director of Beton Merah Putih, in Jakarta, Friday (31/1/2025).

The future use of more eco-friendly green concrete is a mandatory practice that must be adopted by all construction industry players. This is driven not only by government policies but also by a collective awareness to realize more sustainable development, noted Yudistira.

On the other hand, one of the strategic projects adopting this low-carbon green concrete is the construction of the Club House at HIERA Township Development, developed by Sinar Mitbana Mas. Located in BSD City, this project serves as a prime example of implementing Carbon Injection technology within green area developments.

"The HIERA Township Development is being developed under sustainability principles, one of which is through the implementation of eco-friendly technologies in construction. The Club House construction is our pilot project for utilizing Carbon Injection Concrete in collaboration with Beton Merah Putih," said Ferianda, Technical Planning Department Head of Sinar Mitbana Mas.

He hopes that this technology can be applied more broadly in subsequent projects. "This aligns with our commitment to delivering greener and more sustainable residential areas," Ferianda added.

The adoption of Carbon Injection technology and the growing collaboration with strategic partners demonstrate that the construction industry in Indonesia is transforming. Through this innovation, Beton Merah Putih solidifies its position as an eco-friendly concrete pioneer while strengthening the competitiveness of Indonesia's construction industry in the global market.

Sustainable Innovation from Upstream to Downstream

Surindro Kalbu Adi, Director of Commercial & Logistics at Semen Merah Putih, explained that the commitment to sustainability is a core value guiding the company's business practices. This is integrated across all business units, both in the upstream business (Semen Merah Putih) and the downstream business (Beton Merah Putih).

In the upstream sector, Semen Merah Putih has implemented various sustainable innovations, such as Waste Heat Recovery System (WHRS) technology, the use of alternative eco-friendly fuels, and social innovations like MPTree. Furthermore, their hydraulic cement product, Semen Merah Putih Flexiplus, has been awarded a Gold rating certification as a Green Product by the Green Product Council Indonesia (GPCI).

"The implementation of Carbon Injection technology for Beton Merah Putih is proof that we will continue to innovate to meet evolving market demands while actively contributing to a greener future," he stated.
