Walls are usually permanent and made of heavy materials such as bricks in cement coating. Permanent walls are definitely stronger, but in some areas of the house, the addition of permanent wall could make the room look smaller. Therefore, you could make use of the following building materials to make a flexible and multifunctional temporary house partition:

  1. Wood

Wood is usually used as a frame for room partition made of other materials, such as glass, fiber, fabric, or paper. This material is suitable to be combined with other materials with a cooler nuance. Beside as a room partition frame, wood could also be used as the main material of a temporary room partition by stacking wooden blocks either horizontally or vertically. The gap width between each block could be adjusted according to your needs and preferences. If you want more closure to the room, you could use a wooden partition with narrow gaps, and vice versa. The wood used for room partition usually needs to be layered with some polish or melamine finishing paint to enhance its natural pattern.

  1. Bamboo

A natural alternative for room partition that is also often used beside wood is bamboo. This material could give an oriental and classic touch to the room, while also keeping a warm and natural appearance, just like wood. If you want to use bamboos as room partition, you could assemble some bamboos until it turns into a sheet form, and frame it using a frame made of bamboo or other materials, like metal. Bamboo is quite prone to weathering, so do not forget to put a layer of protective paint on before using it as a room partition. Repeat this layering process regularly to maintain the quality of bamboos used.

  1. Gypsum

The next room partition material that you could go for is gypsum. This material has its own advantage compared to other partition materials, which is its ability to muffle sound. You could add some glasswool material on the gypsum for a more effective sound muffling and to give an extra privacy inside the house. Gypsum partition is suitable for use especially to separate kitchen from other rooms, as it could muffle the noise, smoke, heat, as well as odor coming from the kitchen. Furthermore, gypsum partition could also be used to separate washbasin or bathroom area from the bedroom to reduce the bathroom noise.

  1. Glass

If your house has a futuristic and modern concept, you could use a glass room partition. If the glass is more than 10 mm thick, you could use it as a room partition without having to add a frame. But if it is less than 10 mm thick, a frame made of other materials like wood and iron is required. Glass room partition could make the room look connected to each other, and if you want your room to look wider, you could use a mirror instead of glass as your room partition material.

  1. Fabric

Another material that you could use for room partition is fabric. The fabric used for room partition is usually a curtain with various colors, patterns, and textures. You could choose a color, pattern, and texture that fits your building concept best. Fabric room partition has been used for a long time and is still quite popular because beside functioning as a room divider, fabric room partition could also be used as room decoration.

Before deciding which partition material to use, make sure that you decide its main function first. If you need a more lightweight and flexible partition, you could use temporary room partition. However, if you need an extra privacy to a room, you definitely need a permanent partition, like a brick wall layered with cement. To minimize the risk of damage happening to the wall in the future, do not forget to use quality building material. For example, when choosing cement, go for premium quality cement, such as Semen Merah Putih.
